The dry weight of pine needles contains 0.55% calcium (ca) by percentage. Thus, rounded off to 0.50%, it would take two-hundred mg to get one g of calcium. There are one thousand mg per g. So, for two-hundred, multiply it by five, concluding that one g of dried pine needles contain five mg of calcium. Multiply by one-hundred )to one-hundred grams) and the calcium content is 500 mg. 450 g is a pound, thus, in one pound dry weight of needles, there is 2,250 mg of calcium, which is over twice the daily amount of calcium recommended for men (teenagers and elders require more, whereas young children require less.) To get the recommended amount of calcium from pine needles alone, about half a pound of pine needles by dry weight is required.
